Overview
Carrie Ward is a trial attorney with substantial experience handling complex litigation, internal investigations, government enforcement actions, and other criminal and enforcement matters, practicing before a number of federal district courts and circuit courts, as well as the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and the U.S. Army Court of Criminal Appeals. She currently serves as a Military Trial Judge for the U.S. Army Reserves, based in the Military District of Washington.
Prior to joining Stein Mitchell, Carrie served as a senior trial attorney/advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. There, she was lead counsel in all stages of complex litigation, including investigations, criminal trials with a robust motions’ practice, and post-conviction civil appeals. She served as an appellate attorney with the Office of the Federal Defender in Sacramento, California, successfully representing clients in late-stage litigation in multiple federal district and circuit courts.
After law school, Carrie served 11 years on active duty as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Army. She was lead counsel in more than 100 courts-martial, repeatedly selected to prosecute high profile cases and represent senior leaders accused of misconduct. She served as managing counsel in multiple capacities, to include Senior Defense Counsel, Senior Trial Counsel, Complex Appeals Attorney, and Senior Administrative and Intelligence Attorney for the U.S. Army Contracting Command and Joint Intelligence Training Center, respectively. In these roles, Carrie received multiple awards for her service, including a Bronze Star Medal, 4 Meritorious Service Medals, 4 Army Commendation Medals, 2 Army Achievement Medals, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and the National Defense Service Ribbon.
